We live in a society where being average is normal and only a few are expected to “rise to the top.” Why do some people achieve while others fail? Are we all capable of excellence, or are some people more predisposed to being average?

Like athletes, children can be “conditioned” for excellence if parents and educators understand the proper practices. Children can be coached into habits of excellence that will become permanent behaviors for success at home, school and work.

This author contends that excellence is a behavior that is learned through practice. Teachers and parents must acquire the practices that are fundamental to excellence. When we understand that excellence (high performance), values, and education are critical facets to any effort designed to improve the academic development of our children, we will ensure that no child will ever be left behind.
